How about being emotionally balanced? Our emotions regulate our performance, in everything. Our bodies are basically one giant petri dish with emotions stimulating our body’s chemical reactions to everything we are exposed to or perceive.
Stress is a constant and unavoidable impairment to our body’s high performing potential. As we fail to achieve balance in our lives, so too does our chemical balance, as cortisol floods our system in response to the stressors we place upon it.
Now I’m not talking about failing to be able to do as many push-ups as you could 2 years ago. I’m talking about failing to perform at your peak emotional regulation and cognitive function. I’ve performed at my physical best, and selected, trained and tested others to achieve theirs. But without regulated emotions enabling peak cognitive function, even the biggest of biceps can’t carry you through a hard day in the office or a critical project delivery.
